Giants outfielder Hunter Pence’s sixth-inning RBI single simultaneously ended Cardinals starter Lance Lynn’s night and pulled the Giants back into a tie at 2-2 in Game 2 of the NLCS.
Lynn appeared to be on his way to an easy sixth inning, striking out the first two batters he faced. However, Pablo Sandoval put together a fantastic at-bat against him and ultimately won, dropping a double down the left field line to bring up Pence. Pence, too, had a great at-bat to work the count full before lining a single to right-center, scoring Sandoval and chasing Lynn from the game. Left-hander Randy Choate came in to face the left-handed Brandon Belt, striking him out to end the inning.
Both starters are now out of the game. Lynn allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three in 5 2/3 innings. Giants starter Jake Peavy allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two in four innings. This game will now be decided by the bullpens.
