Joe Frisaro has the story over at MLB.com ...

Henderson Alvarez, the Marlins’ Opening Day starter, is officially out for the season.

The 25-year-old underwent arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday to repair a right shoulder tear. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla.

Alvarez served as the Marlins’ Opening Day starter, but he hit the disabled list on April 13 with right shoulder inflammation and then landed back on it in late May. In all, the 25-year-old made just four starts this season for the Fish. And it’s not clear if he’s going to be ready for the start of spring training next February.

Alvarez is making $4 million in his first year of arbitration. He had a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts last season.
