After finishing this season with his most saves since he set the MLB single-season record in 2008, Francisco Rodriguez tells Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that he hopes to remain with the Brewers next season.
Rodriguez had to settle for a one-year, $3.25 million contract before the beginning of spring training and began the season in a set-up role, but he ended up with a 3.04 ERA with 73/18 K/BB ratio over 68 innings while going 44-for-49 in save chances. The 32-year-old was selected to his first All-Star team since 2009.
One possible complication to a return to Milwaukee is the presence of Jonathan Broxton, who was acquired from the Reds in August. He’s under contract for $9 million next season. Rodriguez will likely be too expensive to bring back.
