Eric Chavez is serious about wanting to return for a 13th professional season.
The oft-injured infielder told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that he has a workout with the Dodgers on January 20 and will hold private workouts with two American League clubs later this month.
Chavez played in only 33 games last season, only eight in 2009 and just 23 in 2008, but he has been working out five days a week in Arizona and is telling reporters that he feels “great” physically.
The 33-year-old would probably have to settle for a minor league contract with a spring training invite. He has expressed a desire to play in southern California, but he’ll likely go with the best opportunity that he can find.
