Dustin Pedroia is expected to avoid the disabled list

Dustin Pedroia

After playing through left wrist soreness for more than a week Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia headed back to Boston to be examined by a doctor during the team’s off day. And apparently the news is good, as Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that Pedroia does not have a fractured wrist and is expected to avoid the disabled list.

Pedroia played through a torn thumb ligament for most of last season, managing to stay in the lineup for 160 of 162 games. He also played each of the Red Sox’s first dozen games this season before sitting out Sunday, but has hit just .136 since injuring his wrist.

Boston starts a three-game series versus Chicago tomorrow.
