Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports that free agent left-hander Doug Davis threw a 45-pitch bullpen session yesterday and was scouted by eight teams, including the Mets, Rangers, Angels, Rockies, and Orioles.
Davis made just eight starts last season because of a heart problem and an elbow injury that required surgery, going 1-4 with a 7.51 ERA, but the 35-year-old southpaw had a 4.12 ERA in 203 innings for the Diamondbacks in 2009 and previously posted an ERA in the 3.00s or 4.00s every year since 2004.
He’ll likely have to settle for a minor-league deal at this point, but Davis could be an interesting low-risk flier for teams in need of some rotation depth.
