Pitching coach Mike Maddux and the Rangers parted ways last week after seven years together and Texas has decided on a replacement, with Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram reporting that it’ll likely be Astros Double-A pitching coach Doug Brocail.
Brocail pitched 15 seasons in the majors, including two years with the Rangers as a middle reliever. He was the Astros’ pitching coach from mid-2011 to 2013, shifted into a front office role for 2014, and coached at Double-A this year.
Maddux expressed interest in staying with Texas, but told the team he wanted to test the open market to see his other options and the Rangers decided to move on.
