This is a tough day to be a 35-year-old reliever who can’t throw strikes.
First the Cardinals released left-hander J.C. Romero and now the Dodgers have released right-hander Mike MacDougal, whom they designated for assignment last week.
MacDougal had a nice-looking 2.05 ERA in 69 appearances for Los Angeles last season, but it came along with a 41/29 K/BB ratio in 57 innings that suggested he was more lucky than good. He allowed five runs in 5.2 innings this season before the Dodgers decided to cut bait.
