Yasiel Puig is not going to be traded this season.
Jayson Stark of ESPN reports that the Dodgers placed the 24-year-old outfielder on revocable waivers last week but promptly pulled him back when he was claimed by another team. Puig is no longer eligible to be dealt ahead of the August 31 waiver deadline.
It’s not known which club tried to acquire him.
Puig has been a disappointment in his third MLB season, batting just .241/.314/.409 entering play Tuesday, but he’s still young and on a very team-friendly contract for a player of his caliber. There’s been talk of the Dodgers being open to trade proposals, but no hint of actual negotiations taking place.
Puig is making $6.2 million this season and owed just $24.6 million total through the 2018 campaign.
You can live through some of the headaches for his relatively low cost and immense upside.
