Daisuke Matsuzakatold a Japanese publicationthat he hurt his inner thigh before Spring Training in the early part of 2009, but didn’t disclose the injury to anyone. Take a look at the (loosely)translated version of the story here, but it’s pretty clear something was off with Dice-K upon joining the Red Sox after his brilliant performance for Japan in the World Baseball Classic.
Matsuzaka was 4-6 with a 5.76 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in 12 starts with the Red Sox in ’09. He was 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in four starts after missing three months with a right shoulder injury.
