Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall has been saying for years that the honor of a number retirement would be bestowed at some point on Randy Johnson and his 51 jersey. And now that “The Big Unit” has officially been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, plans for an official ceremony -- to take place in 2015 at Arizona’s Chase Field -- are in the works.

It will be the third number retired by the Diamondbacks; Luis Gonzalez and his No. 20 got the honor in 2010 and Jackie Robinson’s No. 42 was retired by every organization in Major League Baseball in 1997.
