The Diamondbacks said late last night that third baseman Jake Lamb has “fraying” in his left rotator cuff and could need season-ending surgery. They may try to rehab it rather than go the surgery route. If they do he could be back in mid-to-late September.

Lamb has played pretty miserably this season, hitting just .222/.307/.348 while being limited to 56 games in the field. The Dbacks acquired Eduardo Escobar from the Twins the other day. It was assumed he’d see some time as an offensive upgrade over Nick Ahmed at short, but one has to assume he’s the Snakes’ third baseman for the duration.
