The Arizona Diamondbacks have re-signed pitcher Rubby De La Rosa to a two-year minor league contract.
You don’t see a lot of two-year minor league deals for veterans, but De La Rosa is a unique case, as he just underwent hi second career Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire 2018 season. While a lot of clubs might just cut bait on a guy in that situation, the Dbacks obviously think he’ll have something left when he’s healthy again and want to keep dibs on him if he does.
De La Rosa, 28, has a 4.49 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 421.1 major league innings. He’s flashed electric stuff at times, but that stuff has come at the expense of his elbow ligaments. See you in 2019, Rubby.
