When the Diamondbacks called up Trevor Bauer for his debut in late June there was plenty of opportunity for him to stick in the majors for good, but instead four starts later the 21-year-old top prospect is heading back to the minors.
Bauer showed the raw stuff that has the potential to make him an ace, but also flashed the shaky command that led to him walking 4.6 batters per nine innings in the minors. In four starts for Arizona he struck out 17 and walked 13 in 16 innings, posting a 6.06 ERA.
He remains one of the elite prospects in baseball, but the No. 3 overall pick in the 2011 draft definitely has some work to do when it comes to consistently throwing strikes and more seasoning at Triple-A makes sense while the Diamondbacks turn back to Josh Collmenter in the rotation.
