Red Sox DH David Ortiz was ejected by home plate umpire Bruce Dreckman in the seventh inning of Saturday’s game against the Royals. Ortiz had singled to center field off of Kelvin Herrera. He held his bat for a prolonged period of time before flipping it back towards home plate, landing in fair territory. Dreckman and Ortiz jawed a bit and ultimately, the veteran slugger was ejected.

It sounds like Ortiz wasn’t happy with a couple of strikes Dreckman called earlier in the at-bat, per Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe.

Here’s video of the incident.

Ortiz, 39, finished 1-for-3 and is still hitting a mediocre .231/.317/.402 with nine home runs and 29 RBI on the season.
