David Bell is the Reds’ new Triple-A manager

david bell

David Bell, who retired in 2006 following a 16-season career in the majors, is now the Reds’ new Triple-A manager.

Bell spent the past three years managing at Double-A and gets the promotion despite a 176-239 record there. Rick Sweet, who’d served as Louisville’s manager since 2004, will reportedly take another role in the organization.

John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer notes that Bell played for Louisville when he was coming up through the Reds’ farm system in the 1990s and of course his father, Buddy Bell, has nine seasons of managing experience with the Tigers, Rockies, and Royals.

Most importantly, seeing all these players from my childhood take managing jobs makes me feel really old.
