The Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) announced Wednesday night on MLB Network that Astros left-hander Dallas Keuchel has been named the winner of the 2015 Cy Young Award in the American League. He easily beat out David Price of the Blue Jays (and Tigers), securing 22 of a possible 30 first-place votes. Price got the other eight first-place votes. Sonny Gray of the A’s came in third.
Keuchel posted a stellar 2.48 ERA and 1.017 WHIP in 33 starts this season for Houston, striking out 216 batters in an American League-pacing 232 innings. He then led the Astros to a win over the Yankees in the American League Wild Card Game with six shutout frames and made two appearances against the Royals in the American League Division Series.
Keuchel also fielded his position well enough in 2015 to capture his second Gold Glove Award, and he was named an American League All-Star for the first time.
There should be many more accolades to come for this 27-year-old southpaw.
