A’s left-hander Dallas Braden underwent surgery nearly 11 months ago to repair a torn anterior capsule in his throwing shoulder. And it’s now a certainty that his recovery will take over a year.
According to Carl Steward of the San Jose Mercury News, Braden suffered a shoulder strain while playing catch last week at the A’s spring training complex and has been shut down indefinitely.
The 28-year-old was aiming to return sometime in early May, but he’ll likely have to restart his throwing program if the strain was at all severe, which could push his return timetable beyond the All-Star break.
Braden has posted a 3.36 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in his past 55 major league starts. He threw a perfect game against the Rays on May 9, 2010 and finished that season with the best numbers of his career.
