Veteran catcher Yorvit Torrealba has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Cubs.
Torrealba previously signed a minor-league deal with the Angels this offseason, but the 35-year-old opted out and became a free agent again when it became clear he wasn’t going to make the team in spring training.
He spent last season with the Rockies, but hit just .240 with zero homers and a .580 OPS in 61 games and was similarly ineffective in 2012.
Chicago currently has John Baker and Eli Whiteside splitting time behind the plate because starting catcher Welington Castillo is on the disabled list with a rib cage injury.
