MLB.com’s Carrie Muskat reports that the Cubs are expected to place first baseman Anthony Rizzo on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday. Rizzo hasn’t played since last Thursday due to a back issue, so the DL stint would be retroactive to Friday.
Rizzo, 28, has struggled to start the season, batting .107/.219/.214 with a home run and three RBI in 32 plate appearances.
Victor Caratini has been starting at first base in Rizzo’s absence and figures to continue doing so while he’s out.
