White Sox outfielder Charlie Tilson will start the 2017 regular season on the disabled list, JJ Stankevitz of CSN Chicago reports. Tilson is dealing with a stress reaction in his right foot and will be shut down for at least the next three weeks.
The White Sox acquired Tilson from the Cardinals at the end of July last year in exchange for reliever Zach Duke. He accrued just two plate appearances in the majors, singling in one of them, but performed well with the Cardinals’ Triple-A affiliate in Memphis. Tilson hit .282/.345/.407 with 28 extra-base hits, 34 RBI, 53 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases in 395 plate appearances. He unfortunately tore his hamstring in his major league debut, ending his season.
With Tilson out of the picture temporarily, the starting center field job is now open to Peter Bourjos, Leury Garcia, Jacob May, and Adam Engel.
