The Brewers announced on Sunday that the club and pitcher Brent Suter agreed on a two-year contract, avoiding arbitration. Per MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy, the total value of the deal is $2.5 million. Suter can earn more by hitting innings pitched thresholds.
Suter, 30, was eligible for arbitration in the first of four years. He filed for $1.25 million while the Brewers countered at $825,000.
Suter made his season debut last year in early September after recovering from Tommy John surgery. Across 18 1/3 innings, the lefty posted a 0.49 ERA with 15 strikeouts and one walk. He also threw a scoreless inning in the NL Wild Card game against the Nationals.
Going into the 2020 season, Suter appears ticketed for the bullpen, but the playing time incentives in his contract indicate the potential for returning to the starting rotation.
