The Brewers have acquired pitcher Sam Freeman from the Rangers in exchange for cash, the club announced on Twitter. To make room for Freeman on the 40-man roster, the Brewers designated pitcher Ariel Pena for assignment.
Freeman was designated for assignment by the Rangers on March 29, which created space on the 40-man roster for catcher Bryan Holaday. Freeman, 28, has a career 3.23 ERA with a 101/59 K/BB ratio over 108 2/3 career innings.
Pena, 26, had a tough season debut for the Brewers on Monday. He gave up five runs on back-to-back-to-back home runs against the Giants, lasting 1 2/3 innings.
