Brett Gardner diagnosed with an abdominal strain

After sitting out all weekend Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner has been diagnosed with strained abdominal muscle and “will be seen tonight by a team doctor,” according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

No word yet on how long he might be out, but Gardner is not in the lineup for tonight’s game against the Rays.

Gardner is having arguably the best season of his career, hitting .269 with a career-high 16 homers and a career-high .784 OPS in 133 games. Defensive metrics no longer rate his glove as elite, however, so his 2010 season remains the best in terms of Wins Above Replacement.
