CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox have reached agreement on a minor league contract with outfielder Brennan Boesch. The deal comes with an invitation to spring training, but the 30-year-old is doubtful to crack the Opening Day roster.
Boesch posted a brutal .146/.191/.202 batting line in 94 plate appearances last season for the Reds and he hit .187/.203/.293 with the Angels in 2014.
He did show some promise with the Tigers in 2010-2011, managing a .766 OPS with 30 home runs and 121 RBI in 248 games, but that is ancient history by now.
Boesch will operate as organizational outfield depth for Boston.
