From FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal comes word that the Braves have signed right-handed reliever Jason Grilli to a two-year deal with a club option for 2017.
It’s worth $8 million, per MLB.com’s Mark Bowman.
Grilli was a very good closer for the Pirates in 2013, posting a 2.70 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 74/13 K/BB ratio in 50 innings, but he lost that job to Mark Melancon in the early part of the 2014 season and was eventually traded to the Angels for Ernesto Frieri (who finished 2014 with a 7.34 ERA).
Grilli had a bit more success in Anaheim following that late-June trade, but he’s a 38-year-old setup man and just signed with a team that has embarked on a major rebuild. Again, what are the Braves doing?
