Veteran infielder Gordon Beckham has agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Braves, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com.
Based on their recent moves the Braves clearly aren’t trying to win this season--our own Craig Calcaterra has written extensively about that--so Beckham is a good fit in that he’s from Atlanta and cheap.
He also hasn’t been effective since a nice rookie season in 2009, failing to crack a .700 OPS in any of the six years since then. This past season he hit .209 with six homers and a .607 OPS in 100 games for the White Sox while playing all over the infield.
