The Padres announced on Sunday that the club traded pitcher Clayton Richard and cash considerations to the Blue Jays in exchange for outfielder Connor Panas.
Richard, 35, was designated for assignment by the Padres 10 days ago. The lefty will earn $3 million in 2019 and then can become eligible for free agency. This past season, Richard struggled to a 5.33 ERA with 108 strikeouts and 60 walks over 158 2/3 innings.
Panas, 25, was selected by the Blue Jays in the ninth round of the 2015 draft. He spent the 2018 season with Double-A New Hampshire, batting .232/.296/.359 with nine home runs and 39 RBI in 407 plate appearances.
