Barry Zito’s comeback with the A’s has involved spending the entire season at Triple-A and now the 37-year-old former Cy Young winner has been placed on the disabled list there with a shoulder injury.
Zito sat out all of last season, signed a minor-league deal with the A’s to compete for a big-league roster spot during spring training, and has been a fixture in the Triple-A Nashville rotation with a 3.48 ERA in 22 starts. However, his 90/60 K/BB ratio in 137 innings is anything but impressive.
Zito’s shoulder injury is considered minor, but it lessens whatever slim chance he had of getting a September call-up to Oakland.
