Astros place Jason Bourgeois on DL with oblique injury

Astros utilityman Jason Bourgeois has opened the 2011 season with a stellar .407/.439/.500 batting line through his first 57 plate appearances. He’s also tallied 12 stolen bases in 14 chances.

Unfortunately, the 29-year-old is now going to have to put that early offensive momentum on hold.

Bourgeois suffered an oblique injury during an at-bat Saturday against the Pirates and was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday morning, according to the Houston Chronicle‘s Zachary Levine.

The Astros purchased the contract of Joe Inglett from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding roster move and will keep him around as infield depth until Bourgeois recovers. Oblique strains typically require over three weeks of healing. But for Bourgeois, whose game relies on speed and aggressiveness, it might take even longer.
