Later today the A’s will announce a contract extension with manager Bob Melvin, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Oakland is 60-79 this season.
Melvin is a two-time Manager of the Year winner with a 385-339 (.532) record in four seasons with the A’s, but not many managers would get a contract extension after following up last season’s second-half collapse with the worst record in the league.
Also of note: Melvin was already under contract for 2016 as part of a two-year deal signed in January of 2013, so the extension will begin in 2017 and removes any possibility of lame-duck status.
