Aroldis Chapman was removed from last night’s Yankees-Marlins game after throwing just six pitches, some of which were several miles per hour slower than his typical velocity. The culprit: his troublesome knee, which he said was causing him considerable pain.
Chapman battled left knee discomfort in early July and skipped the All-Star Game to rest it. For now the Yankees are going to give him an MRI and see what’s what. If he’s placed on the disabled list, Dellin Betances or David Robertson are the most likely choices to fill in at closer.
The Yankees are currently without Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius. What’s one more star on the shelf for the Bombers?
