Craig Gentry, who played with the Rangers from 2009-2013 and the A’s from 2014-2015, is staying in the AL West by signing a one-year deal with the Angels.
Gentry’s speed and ability to play all three outfield spots make him a solid backup, but he hasn’t hit enough to be a quality regular in recent years. He spent most of this past season at Triple-A, batting just .256 with five homers and a .646 OPS in 101 games for the A’s affiliate.
He’s unlikely to have a prominent role, but Gentry should have a decent chance to snag an Opening Day roster spot.
