Angels fire the scout who recommended drafting Mike Trout

Mike Trout has been the best player in baseball for the past three seasons, but the Angels just fired the scout who recommended they draft him out of a New Jersey high school in 2009.

Greg Morhardt served as a national cross-checker for the Angels and, according to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com, “pegged Trout as a future star while most teams shied away.”

Trout was selected by the Angels with the 25th overall pick, made his MLB debut two years later, and looks headed for his first MVP award at age 23 (after deserving the award in each of the previous two seasons according to Wins Above Replacement).

Gonzalez reports that Morhardt “will not have his contract renewed for 2015" and the Angels declined to discuss why.
