As anticipated, the Angels have activated right-handed starter Garrett Richards from the 15-day disabled list for Sunday afternoon’s series finale against the Astros at Houston’s Minute Maid Park.
This will be the first start for Richards since he tore the patellar tendon in his left knee last August in Boston. The 26-year-old needed surgery for that injury and was eased along this spring in Angels camp.
Richards posted a tremendous 2.61 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 8.8 K/9 in 168 2/3 innings last year.
Anaheim’s rotation is currently sporting a 4.78 combined ERA through 11 games.
