The Braves signed Markakis to a four-year, $44 million contract on Tuesday night. It’s easy to understand why Jones would be upset about losing a friend and longtime teammate, but the O’s are probably better off avoiding that kind of commitment. Markakis has batted just .274/.335/.371 since the beginning of the 2013 season and while he was awarded a Gold Glove for 2014 his actual defensive metrics are not flattering.
