  • FA Relief Pitcher #50
    Diamondbacks released RHP Miguel Castro.
Castro went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week at the trade deadline. The 29-year-old righty, who missed time earlier this year due to a shoulder injury, figures to generate some interest on the open market after making 75 relief appearances last year for Arizona.

Castro was a key component of Arizona’s relief mix last year, but missed nearly three months due to shoulder inflammation and now loses his roster spot to veteran Dylan Floro.

Diamondbacks activated RHP Miguel Castro from the 15-day injured list.
Castro rejoins Arizona’s relief mix after missing nearly three months recovering from right shoulder inflammation that put him on the shelf back in late April. The 29-year-old righty was a certifiable workhorse last year when he led the National League with 75 relief appearances. His return provides a lift for the Diamondbacks heading into the All-Star break.

Diamondbacks placed RHP Miguel Castro on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
Not great. Castro was a workhorse last year for Arizona, making a National League-high 75 relief appearances, so it’s a considerable loss for their bullpen depth. There should be an update on the 29-year-old right-hander’s status in the coming days, but shoulder issues are never good.

Diamondbacks activated RHP Miguel Castro from the paternity list.
Castro rejoins Arizona’s bullpen mix for Monday’s series finale against the Yankees in New York after being away from the club for a handful of games while on paternity leave. The 28-year-old right-hander has recorded a career-high seven saves to accompany a serviceable 4.55 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 55/24 K/BB ratio across 61 1/3 innings (71 appearances) this season in his Diamondbacks debut.

Diamondbacks placed RHP Miguel Castro on the paternity list.
The 28-year-old right-hander will be away from the club for the weekend as he welcomes a new addition to his family. Slade Cecconi was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move to take his place in the Diamondbacks’ bullpen for their weekend set against the Yankees in New York.

Miguel Castro made things interesting in the ninth inning against the Phillies on Monday night, but managed to escape with his seventh save of the season.
The right-hander took over with the Diamondbacks leading 9-7 heading to the ninth inning. He allowed a leadoff double to J.T. Realmuto to bring the tying run to the plate, but battled back to retire Alec Bohm on a ground ball and Josh Harrison on a pop out to second base. Bryson Stott then delivered an RBI single though, cutting the lead to one. Kody Clemens then crushed what looked like a go-ahead two-run homer, but upon review it was ruled a foul ball. Castro then struck out Clemens swinging to end the ballgame. The right-hander now boasts a 3.95 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 24/10 K/BB ratio across his first 27 1/3 innings on the season.

Miguel Castro worked a scoreless ninth inning on Friday to earn the save against the Braves.
Castro narrowly came away with the save on Friday against Atlanta. With a one-run lead, he gave up a pair of singles with one out to put runners on the corners. A fly ball to shallow left field and a groundout would get him out of it as he locked down his sixth save.

Miguel Castro struck out two in a scoreless ninth for his fifth save Sunday against the Red Sox.
Andrew Chafin was used to get two outs in the seventh today. Castro has four of the Diamondbacks’ six saves over the last three weeks, with Chafin notching the other two.

A scoring reversal has resulted in Miguel Castro being credited with his third win, but losing his fifth save, in Tuesday’s game against the Phillies.
Hat tip to the Diamondbacks broadcast today. José Ruiz was originally awarded the win in the game after getting two outs in the seventh, but the scorer has discretion there and it was decided this morning to give it to Castro, who might or might not be happy about it. After all, relievers tend to get paid more for saves than for wins.
