    Blue Jays purchased the contract of 1B Michael McDade from Double-A New Hampshire.
    A former sixth-round pick, McDade .281/.328/.457 with 16 homers over 484 at-bats for New Hampshire this season. He’ll need to progress more at the plate to turn into a real prospect, and the Jays are willing to let him occupy a spot on the 40-man roster to see if he can do just that.

McDade, who is batting just .230/.313/.284 with no homers at Triple-A this season, will probably pass through waivers. Then again, he used to be a Blue Jay, so it’s always possible Alex Anthopoulos will claim him.

    McDade was designated for assignment by the Indians late last week. The 24-year-old was off to a slow start with Cleveland’s Triple-A affiliate, but he hit .285/.360/.445 with 19 home runs and an .806 OPS between Toronto’s Double-A and Triple-A affiliates last season. He’ll function as organizational depth.
