McDade

A former sixth-round pick, McDade .281/.328/.457 with 16 homers over 484 at-bats for New Hampshire this season. He’ll need to progress more at the plate to turn into a real prospect, and the Jays are willing to let him occupy a spot on the 40-man roster to see if he can do just that.

McDade, 23, batted .285/.360/.445 with 17 homers and an .806 OPS in 118 games this year between Double- and Triple-A in 2012. He’ll compete for a bench job this spring.

Neither had a real shot to win a roster spot. A waiver claim from the Blue Jays earlier this offseason, McDade will be the first baseman at Buffalo.

The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Ezequiel Carrera. McDade, who is batting just .230/.313/.284 with no homers at Triple-A this season, will probably pass through waivers. Then again, he used to be a Blue Jay, so it’s always possible Alex Anthopoulos will claim him.

McDade was designated for assignment by the Indians late last week. The 24-year-old was off to a slow start with Cleveland’s Triple-A affiliate, but he hit .285/.360/.445 with 19 home runs and an .806 OPS between Toronto’s Double-A and Triple-A affiliates last season. He’ll function as organizational depth.

He’s now off the 40-man roster. McDade, 24, batted .250/.313/.371 with 10 homers and 53 RBI at the Triple-A level this past season.

McDade, 25, owns a .261/.319/.407 career line in the minors. The former sixth-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2007 will be organizational depth for the O’s.

The 24-year-old spent the 2013 season split between Triple-A Columbus and Triple-A Charlotte, where he slashed .250/.313/.371 with 10 homers and 53 RBI in 115 games. He’ll provide organizational depth for the Jays.
