Red Sox released RHP Melvin Adon.
Adon, 30, was awful in his seven appearances with Triple-A Worcester with an ERA of 11.88 and K/BB of 12/10 over 8 1/3 innings of work. The right-hander will now be free to find another team, but interest may be scarce at this stage.

Red Sox reassigned pitchers Frank German, Melvin Adon, Helcris Olivarez, Alex Hoppe, and catchers Stephen Scott and Nathan Hickey to minor league camp on Wednesday.
Olivarez was signed to a minor league contract this offseason after missing all of 2023 due to shoulder surgery. He’s a high-velocity pitcher with a fastball in the triple-digits but he needs more refinement. German was once a potential closer-of-the-future in the Red Sox minor league system but was traded to Cincinnati in 2022 and has struggled in Triple-A over the past two seasons. He’s still 26 years old, so the Red Sox will hope to get his development back on track.

Melvin Adon is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
Adon apparently injured his right shoulder while pitching for Toros del Este in the Dominican Winter League. The 26-year-old probably won’t be fully recovered by the beginning of the 2021 regular season.

Giants re-signed RHP Melvin Adon to a minor league contract.
Adon was non-tendered by the Giants last week, but the two parties have now worked out a new deal for the 2021 season. Adon, 26, has yet to appear in a major league game and posted a rough 4.72 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 55 1/3 innings of relief between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento in 2019.

    Giants non-tendered RHP Melvin Adon.
Adon recently exited a Domincan winter league appearance with an apparent arm injury, which is likely the reason for this move. He isn’t arbitration-eligible and is arguably the team’s top relief prospect, so the Giants might want to see if they can bring him back on a minor league deal.

Giants optioned RHP Melvin Adon to Double-A Richmond.
Adon didn’t have a real chance to make the team. The Giants could move him full-time to the bullpen this season after he struggled for consistency as a starter.

Giants purchased the contract of RHP Melvin Adon from High-A San Jose.
Adon mostly struggled as a starter in the minors in 2018, but he posted a 2.92 ERA and 21/3 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings of relief in the Arizona Fall League. The 24-year-old right-hander is now protected from selection in next month’s Rule 5 Draft.
