Cardinals selected the contracts of RHP Tink Hence, RHP Tekoah Roby, OF Matt Koperniak and RHP Matt Svanson from Triple-A Memphis.
Hence is arguably the highest profile prospect, especially from a fantasy persepctive, that needed to be added to a 40-man roster ahead of Tuesday’s reserve list deadline to protect him from next month’s Rule 5 Draft. the dynamic 22-year-old righty made significant strides last year in the upper minors, flashing some of the best stuff of any prospect in baseball, posting a stellar 2.71 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 109/26 K/BB ratio across 79 2/3 innings (20 starts) for Double-A Memphis. He’ll open next season on the doorstep of the majors and figures to force his way to St. Louis at some point.

Matt Svanson picked up his first AFL save on Saturday after striking out two in a perfect inning for Glendale.
Svanson was the player the Cardinals got from the Blue Jays in the Paul DeJong deal at the 2023 trade deadline. The 25-year-old spent this season in Double-A, recording 27 saves with a 2.69 ERA and a 59/25 K/BB in 63 2/3 innings. A sinker-slider guy, he’ll probably be a middle reliever if he makes it to the majors.

Cardinals acquired RHP Matt Svanson from the Blue Jays for INF Paul DeJong and cash considerations.
The 24-year-old right-hander was a 13th-round selection by the Blue Jays from the 2021 draft class. He has been awfully impressive in the minor leagues this season — registering a 1.11 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and a 39/11 K/BB ratio over 32 1/3 innings primarily at High-A Vancouver.
