McBride tagged Geoff Hartlieb for the solo shot in the bottom of the ninth inning that pulled the Phillies to within a run, but that would be as close as they would get. The 33-year-old hasn’t played in the big leagues since the 2016 season and remains unlikely to crack the Phillies’ Opening Day roster.

McBride hit .242/.333/.479 with 10 homers at the Triple-A level last season. He hasn’t played in the majors since 2016.

Scahill struck out 151 batters for Triple-A Colorado as a starter, but the Rockies will use him out of the bullpen. McBride batted .200 with a .450 OPS in nine games with the Rockies earlier this season.

Hernandez left Monday’s game with a left hamstring strain and underwent an MRI on Tuesday. The Rockies were planning to try Pacheco behind the plate anyway, but the injury to Hernandez makes it more of a necessity. Matt McBride also could help back up Wilin Rosario.

He’ll be the club’s second catcher while Josh Phegley (knee) is out. McBride has picked up four hits in 18 at-bats with the big club this season.
