Koch unsurprisingly went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week by Colorado. The 33-year-old righty could wind up electing free agency, but will likely stick around as extra organizational depth.

The 33-year-old hurler was obliterated in his lone outing with the Rockies this season, surrendering four runs (three earned) on three hits and a walk while recording only one out. He was given the boot because the Rockies needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster to cycle in additional bullpen arms on Friday. There’s a decent chance that Koch will pass through waivers unclaimed.

Koch will be back to compete for a bullpen spot. He made 39 appearances for the Rockies last season, amassing a 5.12 ERA in 38 2/3 innings. That doesn’t sound like much, but it was a decent enough 99 ERA+ after factoring in Coors Field.

Koch will presumably wind up electing free agency after being removed from Colorado’s 40-man roster heading into the offseason. The 32-year-old journeyman right-hander made a career-high 39 appearances this season for the Rockies, finishing with a pedestrian 5.12 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 27/9 K/BB ratio across 38 2/3 innings.

The 32-year-old right-hander registered a 7.27 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and a 34/11 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings out of the bullpen at Triple-A Albuquerque. He’ll add a fresh arm in the middle innings for the Rockies.

Koch made four relief appearances last year for the Mariners and wound up spending the majority of the season at Triple-A Tacoma. The 32-year-old right-hander holds a pedestrian 5.00 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 72/32 K/BB ratio across 129 2/3 innings (40 appearances, 16 starts) in the majors since 2016. He’ll function as organizational relief depth for the Rockies next season.

Koch made four unremarkable relief appearances this season for the Mariners and spent most of the year at Triple-A Tacoma. The 31-year-old righty reliever has made 40 appearances (16 starts) in the majors, with the majority of those coming for the Diamondbacks, since 2016.

Koch was designated for assignment last week to clear out a roster spot for Mitch Haniger’s return from the COVID-19 injured list. The righty passed through waivers and will remain in the Mariners organization.

He’ll take the place of the injured Sergio Romo in the Mariners bullpen. It’s the first time back in the big leagues for the 31-year-old hurler since the 2019 season. Koch was off to a nice start at Triple-A, hurling a pair of scoreless innings with a 5/0 K/BB ratio.
