Diamondbacks signed INF/OF Matt Beaty to a minor league contract.
Beaty got into 30 games last year between Kansas City and San Francisco. The 31-year-old is capable of handling multiple defensive positions and had some success earlier in his career as a righty-mashing platoon option.

Royals sent INF/OF Matt Beaty outright to Triple-A Omaha.
Beaty predictably passed through waivers unclaimed after being jettisoned earlier this week from Kansas City’s 40-man roster. The 30-year-old wound up getting into just 26 games this season for the Royals and could wind up electing free agency in a few weeks.

Royals designated INF/OF Matt Beaty for assignment.
Beaty has been removed from Kansas City’s 40-man roster to make room for a couple pitching prospects to ascend to the majors. The 30-year-old wound up appearing in just 26 games this season in the big leagues.

Royals optioned INF/OF Matt Beaty to Triple-A Omaha.
The veteran was optioned late last night after he started and hit third in the order for them against the White Sox. Still, Beaty has only been playing about two games a week and is hitting just .230/.347/.295 in 72 plate appearances this season. The Royals have not yet announced a corresponding move to fill his spot on the active roster.
  • KC Catcher #34
Freddy Fermin will start behind the plate Saturday against the Mariners.
Fermin, who has cooled off considerably of late, got the day off on Friday. Salvador Perez will make the start at first base on Saturday while Matt Beaty will serve as the designated hitter. Logan Gilbert is starting for Seattle.

Edward Olivares is starting at designated hitter on Thursday against the Red Sox.
With left-hander James Paxton on the mound, Olivares will enter the lineup with Matt Beaty heading to the bench and Drew Waters on the Bereavement List. Olivares is hitting .250/.304/.408 on the season with six home runs and nine steals in 82 games. He appears to have entered an informal platoon with Matt Beaty while picking up the occasional start at DH when Freddy Fermin sits and Salvador Perez catches. As it stands, he’s not playing enough to be useful outside of the deepest fantasy leagues.

Edward Olivares is on the bench Thursday against the Mets
Olivares had started the last two games but will move to the bench with Matt Beaty sliding into the DH spot and Samad Taylor playing left field. Kyle Isbel will also head to the bench with Drew Waters in center field. The Royals also added outfielder Nelson Velazquez at the trade deadline and while he is currently in Triple-A, the crowded situation could lead to inconsistent playing time for everybody until the Royals decide to move on from some of the older veterans. If they do decide that. For his part, Olivares is hitting .248/.302/.407 on the season with six home runs and eight steals in 77 games and may never live up to the optimism of fantasy managers.

Royals activated INF/OF Matt Beaty from the 7-day concussion injured list.
Beaty has been sidelined since June 22 since he suffered a head injury in a collision with teammate Samad Taylor. The 30-year-old is 3-for-10 (.300) with three RBI in 11 plate appearances at the big league level this season.

Matt Beaty (concussion) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday with Triple-A Omaha.
Beaty landed on the 7-day concussion injured list back in late June and will likely require at least a week or two in the minors getting back up to speed before returning to Kansas City.

Royals placed INF/OF Matt Beaty on the 7-day concussion injured list, retroactive to June 22.
Beaty suffered the injury in a collision with teammate Samad Taylor during Wednesday’s game. It’s not clear yet how long he’ll be sidelined for. Nate Eaton was recalled from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move to add depth to the Royals bench.
