Marlins sent RHP Matt Andriese outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Andriese has the option to elect free agency or stick around with Miami as extra organizational relief depth after going unclaimed on waivers. The 34-year-old journeyman righty has made four relief appearances this season for the Marlins.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #34
Marlins designated RHP Matt Andriese for assignment.
Andriese is removed from the active roster and the 40-man version to clear room for Edward Cabrera. The right-hander is now on the waiver wire, and he can either elect free agency or report to Triple-A if he’s not claimed or traded.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #34
Marlins recalled RHP Matt Andriese from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Andriese has a 4.78 ERA in 32 innings at Triple-A this season, but the Marlins bullpen was taxed against the Red Sox and needed some fresh arms. Anthony Maldonado was sent down to make room.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #52
Marlins optioned RHP Anthony Maldonado to Triple-A Jacksonville
Maldonado was recalled from the minors on Wednesday but allowed four runs on three hits in one inning against the Red Sox and will now return to the minors. Quite a rollercoaster of a day. Matt Andriese will take his place on the active roster.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #34
Marlins sent RHP Matt Andriese outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Andriese predictably went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week by the Marlins. The 34-year-old veteran righty will presumably head to Triple-A Jacksonville to await another opportunity unless he decides to elect free agency.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #34
Marlins designated RHP Matt Andriese for assignment.
Andriese has been removed from Miami’s 40-man roster after allowing three runs on five his with a 6/0 K/BB ratio across five innings (three appearances). The 34-year-old journeyman righty will likely continue to function as emergency relief depth for the Marlins if he passes through waivers unclaimed.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #35
Marlins selected the contract of RHP Matt Andriese from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Andriese hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2021 but could get an opportunity with the Marlins in the coming days. The 34-year-old journeyman has spent time with six different ball clubs, including Miami, throughout his eight-year career. Fantasy managers shouldn’t feel the need to pick him up.
  • MIA First Baseman #26
Marlins reassigned RHP Matt Andriese, RHP Luarbert Arias, RHP Kyle Tyler, and C Paul McIntosh to Minor League camp and optioned RHP Roddery Muñoz, INF Jacob Amaya, INF Jonah Bride, and OF Victor Mesa Jr to Triple-A Jacksonville.
None of the players were a real threat to break camp with the team, but Bride has been solid in his first spring after coming over from Oakland. He’s slashing .263/.364/.421 with one home runs and six runs scored in 12 games. Amaya came to Miami as part of the Miguel Rojas trade last year and posted a fine season at Triple-A in 2023 but with Tim Anderson now in town, the 25-year-old is running out of time to claim a role in the Marlins’ infield.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #35
Marlins signed RHP Matt Andriese to a minor league contract.
Andriese hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2021 campaign and spent all of last season at Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Dodgers’ minor league system. The 34-year-old journeyman righty is merely organizational fodder at this stage of his career.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #34
Dodgers reassigned RHP Matt Andriese, RHP Bobby Miller and INF/OF Jahmai Jones to minor league camp.
Of the three, Andriese likely entered camp with the best shot at cracking the Opening Day roster after excelling with the Yomiuri Giants of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball in 2022. The 33-year-old hurler pitched well in Cactus League play too, hurling five shutout innings with a 0.80 WHIP and a 4/0 K/BB ratio. He’ll start the year as organizational bullpen depth at Triple-A and should get a shot with the big league club before long.
