Mariners signed 1B/3B Donovan Solano to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.
The deal, which also includes $1 million in performance incentives, is official. Solano provides Seattle with some additional bench depth heading into next season after batting .286/.343/.417 with eight home runs and two steals in 309 plate appearances last year with the Padres. The 37-year-old veteran journeyman has spent time with four different organizations in the big leagues dating back to 2019. He can be safely ignored for fantasy purposes but represents a quality depth addition for the Mariners behind incumbent infield options Dylan Moore, Luke Raley and Ryan Bliss.
  • SEA First Baseman #54
Mariners acquired 1B Austin Shenton from the Rays for cash considerations.
There isn’t a ton of competition for at-bats at the cold corner in Seattle beyond Luke Raley and top prospect Tyler Locklear, so this is actually a pretty decent landing spot for Shenton after he was cut loose earlier this week by the Rays. The 26-year-old first baseman, who was originally a fifth-round pick by the Mariners in the 2019 MLB Draft, batted .214/.340/.405 with one homer in 50 plate appearances last year in the big leagues, but he blasted 20 homers in just 83 games at Triple-A Durham.
  • SEA Center Fielder #20
Luke Raley had an RBI double in the seventh and a game-tying, two-run homer off Mason Miller in the bottom of the ninth Saturday as the Mariners edged the A’s 7-6 in 10 innings.
The Mariners won on a routine grounder from Justin Turner in the 10th. Zack Gelof likely could have turned an inning-ending double play, preserving the tie, but he made the decision to throw home and failed to get Leo Rivas at the plate. Raley’s homer was his 22nd. He has a .787 OPS that’s easily the best mark of any of the 10 players to rack up 300 plate appearances for Seattle this year. Next on the list is Cal Raleigh at .741. Not even eligible for arbitration yet, Raley will almost surely be back with the Mariners as a platoon outfielder or first baseman next year.
  • SEA Designated Hitter #2
Justin Turner (knee) is hitting fifth and playing first base against the Rangers on Sunday.
Turner left Saturday’s game against the Rangers with a knee injury, but it was clearly minor with the 39-year-old back in action and playing in the field against the Rangers in the series finale. Luke Raley gets the day off against left-hander Andrew Heaney.
  • SEA Center Fielder #10
Victor Robles left Wednesday’s game against the Rangers on Sunday with an apparent injury.
Robles went 3-for-4 before the exit. The outfielder appeared to be hobbling earlier in the contest, and the Mariners have decided to remove the 27-year-old a couple innings later. Luke Raley has taken Robles’ place.
  • SEA Catcher #29
Cal Raleigh is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Rangers.
Raleigh will get a break Sunday with Mitch Garver serving as George Kirby’s personal backstop again. Mitch Haniger will be the designated hitter Sunday with Luke Raley sitting against southpaw Andrew Heaney.
  • SEA Center Fielder #20
Luke Raley drove in two runs and went 2-for-4 in a blowout win over the Cardinals on Sunday.
Raley doubled twice and drew a walk. The 29-year-old has been excellent since the start of August, and should continue to hit in the middle of the Seattle order for the rest of the year against right-handed pitching.
  • SEA Center Fielder #20
Luke Raley hit a two-run homer and doubled twice in a victory over the Athletics on Thursday.
Raley hit a two-run homer in the ninth to give Seattle a 6-2 lead, and it ended up being a big one as the A’s would get two in the bottom of the frame. He’s been one of the few effective offensive options for Seattle, although it’s worth pointing out that there’s been almost zero consistency for the 29-year-old. Still, the three extra-base hit game now has him slashing a respectable .238/.313/.451 with 46 RBI and 18 homers.
  • SEA Center Fielder #20
Luke Raley went 2-for-4 and belted a solo home run on Sunday as the Mariners fell to the Angels in Los Angeles.
Raley got the Mariners on the board in this one with a mammoth game-tying 437-foot solo shot off of rookie right-hander Caden Dana in the second inning. He tallied two of five total Mariners’ hits in the ballgame. On the season, the 29-year-old outfielder is now hitting .237/.313/.440 to go along with 17 homers and 44 RBI.
  • SEA Center Fielder #20
Luke Raley is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Rays.
Raley takes a seat with tough lefty Jeffrey Springs taking the hill on Tuesday night for Tampa Bay. The 29-year-old slugging corner outfielder missed a game over the weekend due to illness, but was back in there for Monday’s series opener.
