Bard latched on with the Blue Jays back in mid-February and didn’t end up making it to Toronto. The 32-year-old right-hander has made 55 appearances (three starts) in the majors between the Yankees, Rays and Angels dating back to 2018.

No real surprises here but Bard and Fernández seem like the most likely to get the call to Toronto as extra bullpen depth at some point this season.

Bard elected free agency last October after being removed from the Yankees’ 40-man roster. The 32-year-old righty reliever wound up making nine relief appearances last season between the Yankees and Rays. He holds a respectable 4.44 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 68/25 K/BB ratio across 81 innings (55 appearances, three starts) in the majors since 2018. He’ll compete this spring for a spot on the division-rival Blue Jays’ season-opening roster.

Bard was claimed off waivers by the Yankees from the division-rival Rays in early August and wound up making just one relief appearance for New York before being send back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Bard cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last Wednesday and will head to Triple-A to serve as organizational relief depth for the Yankees.

It clears room on the 40-man roster for Ronald Guzman, who is expected to have his contract purchased on Wednesday. The right-hander appeared in just one game with the Yankees after being claimed off waivers from the Rays in August. He could report back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, or elect free agency.

Bard has been shipped back to the minors with Yankees closer Clay Holmes set to be activated prior to Monday’s series opener against the Angels. The 31-year-old right-hander has made just one relief appearance for New York since being claimed off waivers from the Rays earlier this month.

The 31-year-old righty, who has been removed from Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster to make room for lefty Garrett Cleavinger, figures to generate some interest on waivers in the coming days.
