Padres signed RHP Luis Patiño to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
The 25-year-old former top prospect was non-tendered by the Padres back in November. He’s still in the process of recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in May and isn’t expected to be ready to return until after the All-Star break in 2025.

Padres non-tendered RHP Luis Patiño, RHP Logan Gillaspie, OF Bryce Johnson and INF Mason McCoy.
All of these were easy cuts. Patiño, the former top prospect whom the Padres got back from the White Sox off waivers last winter, underwent Tommy John surgery in May. He’ll almost surely be offered a minor league contract to stick around.

Padres transferred RHP Luis Patiño to the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move was made earlier this week to open up a spot on San Diego’s 40-man roster. The 24-year-old former top prospect underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery earlier this month.

Luis Patiño underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday.
Patiño will likely be sidelined until at least midseason of the 2025 campaign after undergoing elbow reconstructive surgery earlier this week. The 24-year-old righty landed on the injured list back in spring training with elbow inflammation after being claimed off waivers from the White Sox back in late December.

Padres placed RHP Luis Patiño on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
It’s never good when you hear about a pitcher dealing with elbow soreness, but the Padres are hopeful that it’s just a minor issue and that they caught it early. Patiño made just two appearances in Cactus League play, posting a woeful 19.29 ERA and 2.57 WHIP over 2 1/3 innings.

Padres claimed RHP Luis Patino off waivers from the White Sox.
Patino was out of options and the Padres now hope to capitalize on his potential. Patino was a top prospect who was involved in the Blake Snell trade, moving Patino to the Rays before the 2021 season. He’s now headed back to the organization that initially saw his talent. Patino has 136 1/3 innings in the majors, holding a 5.02 ERA during that time. He’s surrendered 24 home runs which is one area he’ll need to clean up before really being able to excel on the big stage. With this move, the Padres are still at just 33 men on the roster, giving them plenty of room to navigate the off-season.

White Sox designated RHP Luis Patiño for assignment.
Patiño was a top prospect when the Rays picked him up from the Padres in the Blake Snell trade, but he’s been often injured and mostly ineffective since. The White Sox acquired him in July, but he didn’t show much after the deal. They’d still probably like to keep him, but since he’s out of options, it was probably going to be a matter of trying to get him through waivers now or at the end of the spring.

Luis Patiño was charged with three runs over 2 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.
Patiño turned in a pair of clean frames before coming unraveled in a three-run third inning that chased him from the contest. He finished with three strikeouts and also issued three walks.

White Sox recalled RHP Luis Patiño from Triple-A Charlotte.
Patiño, who was acquired from the Rays at the deadline, will be making his White Sox debut after posting a 5.65 ERA and a hideous 12/13 K/BB ratio in 14 1/3 innings over five starts for Charlotte. The Rays had moved him to the bullpen early this season. The White Sox wanted him available as a starter, but he’ll probably mostly relieve this month.

White Sox claimed RHP Deivi García off waivers from the Yankees.
Erik Boland of Newsday reported the news, though it hasn’t been confirmed yet by either team. The 24-year-old was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Monday after posting a 5.67 ERA in 46 innings at Triple-A this season. However, in 2019, García was a top prospect in the Yankee organization and posted a 37 percent strikeout rate in Double-A. Much has been made about García potentially changing his mechanics which led to his recent run of poor results; however, the White Sox are clearly hoping that they can get the most out of his talent. It’s the same gamble they made this season on other former top pitching prospects Brent Honeywell, Touki Toussaint, and Luis Patiño. Maybe one will pan out.
