Luis Gil allowed one run over 2 1/3 innings in defeating the Twins on Friday.
Gil’s mound performance was fine, but his showing today will be remembered for the head taps. He challenged a clear ball in the first inning, which cost the Yankees their second and final challenge for the day after a batter had already had a strike confirmed in the top of the inning. Nevertheless, Gil again tried challenging a pitch in the second, only to be informed that he couldn’t do so.

Luis Gil yielded one run in 2 2/3 innings and struck out four against the Mets on Sunday.
Gil walked none and threw 33 of his 48 pitches for strikes, so the Yankees have to like that. Gil’s rotation status shouldn’t be in question at the beginning of the season, but he could be threatened once Carlos Rodón and Gerrit Cole are ready to return. So, for him, the competition with the likes of Will Warren and Ryan Weathers should really begin on Opening Day.

Yankees agreed to terms with RHP Luis Gil on a one-year, $2.1625 million contract.
Gil, who debuted for the Yankees in 2021 three years before winning AL Rookie of the Year, was a first-time arbitration eligible after posting a 3.32 ERA in 11 starts last season. He, of course, missed much of the season with a lat strain. The Yankees seem rather down on him now, but he’ll have a rotation spot initially. He just might be vulnerable to getting demoted when either Carlos Rodón or Gerrit Cole returns.

Carlos Rodón is likely to miss the start of next season after surgery to address a bone spur in his elbow.
Aaron Boone suggested that he’d be delayed a few weeks entering the year. Being still four months away from the start of spring training, bone spur surgery seems like something Rodón could recover from and still be ready for Opening Day. Still, there’s not much harm in playing it safe in April. This could quiet any talk about the Yankees moving Luis Gil to the pen next spring. As of right now, Gil and Will Warren are the third and fourth starters behind Max Fried and Cam Schlittler.

Luis Gil struggled in a losing effort against the Blue Jays in Game 1 of the ALDS on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits over his 2 2/3 innings of work.
Gil struck out two batters on the afternoon and didn’t allow a base on balls. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball as he served up a solo shot to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the opening inning and another to Alejandro Kirk in the second. The 27-year-old hurler got eight whiffs on 48 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of only 19 percent. With his limited workload in this one, it’s possible that Gil could resurface out of the bullpen later in the series depending on how long the Yankees can push it.

Luis Gil has been officially added to the Yankees’ ALDS roster.
Gil, is slated to take the ball for Game 1 of the best-of-five series opener in Toronto, is the lone change for New York from their Wild Card Series roster. The 27-year-old starter takes over reliever Mark Leiter Jr.'s roster spot.

Luis Gil will start Game 1 of the ALDS against the Blue Jays, according to Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
Gil went 4-1 with a 3.32 ERA in 11 starts down the stretch after returning from a lat injury. The 27-year-old faced the Blue Jays one time in early September and emerged victorious, allowing just one run on three hits and four walks over his six frames. He’ll start opposite Blue Jays veteran Kevin Gausman. It’ll be Max Fried taking the ball for Game 2 of the series.

Luis Gil pitched five innings of two-run ball in a no-decision against the Orioles on Sunday.
Gil allowed two homers, one of which was a 355-foot fly from Gunnar Henderson that would have been out of only Yankee Stadium and Steinbrenner Field. It was a solid final showing as he tries to make himself a candidate for a potential ALDS roster. In spite of a 4-1 record and a 3.32 ERA in 11 starts since returning from a lat injury, he’ll be left off the Wild Card squad after throwing 79 pitches today.

Luis Gil logged a quality start in a no-decision against the White Sox on Tuesday evening, allowing two runs on four hits over his six frames.
The 27-year-old right-hander issued a pair of walks in the contest while recording three strikeouts. He twirled five scoreless frames to start the game before allowing a one-out single to Kyle Teel and a two-run blast to Colson Montgomery in the sixth inning. Gil got just three whiffs on 89 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll bring a 3.29 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 39/31 K/BB ratio (52 innings) into his final start of the regular season on Sunday against the Orioles.

Luis Gil surrendered five runs — four earned — in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Twins.
Although he entered the fifth with a 7-2 lead, Gil couldn’t secure a win tonight, giving up four singles and a walk before being replaced with two outs. Fortunately, Fernando Cruz was able to retire Royce Lewis then and prevent further damage to Gil’s ERA. Gil struck out just two and gave up 12 hard-hit balls, so he probably deserved worse. Still, at 4-1 with a 3.33 ERA in nine starts, he’s been pretty good for the most part, and he should be fine to use against the White Sox next week.
