J.P. France (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League on Monday.
France has been out all season after undergoing shoulder surgery to address a torn right shoulder capsule last June. The 30-year-old will likely require a long build-up, but he and Cristian Javier and Luis Garcia are all beginning their road back from injuries to provide some depth to the Astros’ rotation.

Astros general manager Dana Brown said that Cristian Javier (elbow) is ahead of teammate Luis Garcia (elbow) in their rehab.
Both pitchers are coming off Tommy John surgery, but Brown seems more optimistic about Javier’s return in 2025. “He’s going to help us this year,” Brown said of Javier, who was up to 95 mph in his first rehab appearance over the weekend. Garcia was up to 94 mph on his fastball, but Brown said, “It’s probably going to take him a little bit longer.”

Luis Garcia (elbow) allowed one run on one hit in two innings in the Florida Complex League on Monday.
Garcia also struck out four and threw 27 pitches in his two innings of work. This was a nice step in Garcia’s return from Tommy John surgery. He will likely try to push to three innings in his next start, which should come at a higher level in the minor league organization. At this rate, assuming he has no setbacks, Garcia could return to the Astros rotation, or perhaps piggyback with a starter like Colton Gordon or Brandon Walter, by the end of July.

Luis Garcia (elbow) will make a rehab start in the Florida Complex League on Monday.
Garcia was up to 25 pitches in his last bullpen session, so his first rehab appearance may be two innings at most. After this start, he could move up to Double-A or Triple-A to continue his rehab with a return in early August looking more likely.

Luis Garcia (elbow) threw his second live batting practice session on Monday.
Garcia was up to 25 pitches in this session, mixing in both fastballs and breaking balls. There is no word yet on what the next step is, but he could begin a rehab assignment and start at two innings before continuing to ramp up. At this point, we would expect an August return to be most likely for Garcia, and the Astros would certainly welcome him back, even if it’s in a piggyback role as they ease him into MLB innings.

Luis Garcia (elbow) will throw another live bullpen session next week.
Garcia will be joined by Cristian Javier in throwing live BPs at some point in the early portion of July. The hope is that Garcia will be able to help the Houston rotation at some point in August.

Luis Garcia (elbow) threw a live batting practice on Wednesday.
Garcia, much like his teammate Cristian Javier, is working his way back from Tommy John surgery. Both of them threw live bullpen sessions on Wednesday and could be nearing a rehab assignment in the coming weeks. The goal is for Garcia to return to Houston’s rotation in August.

Luis Garcia (elbow) is scheduled to face live hitters in a batting practice session next week.
Garcia continues to make solid progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The Astros are hopeful that the 28-year-old hurler will be able to return in late July or early August, which would provide the club’s starting rotation with a major boost over the final two months of the regular season.

Astros General Manager Dana Brown said that RHP Luis Garcia is on target to return in “late July, early August” from Tommy John surgery.
Garcia had surgery early last season but had a setback in his rehab earlier in the spring when there was inflammation in his elbow. The Astros have recently started his throwing program back up and are hopeful he can provide some help for their beleaguered rotation in the final months of the season. He’s not a recommended stash for fantasy managers.

Luis Garcia (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Saturday.
There’s no timetable for Garcia to make it back to Houston’s rotation, but it’s encouraging that he’s starting to make some progress again after being shut down for a month back in early April with elbow inflammation. The 28-year-old righty might make it back to the big leagues at some point in the second half, but that isn’t a guarantee.
