Pirates signed RHP Luis Cessa to a minor league contract.
Cessa is a perfectly cromulent Triple-A starter at this stage of his career and has bounced around a couple organizations since his last appearance in the majors last year for the Reds. The 32-year-old journeyman was cut loose by the Royals earlier this month after posting a 3.89 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 29/16 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings (11 appearances, 10 starts) for Triple-A Omaha.

    Royals released RHP Luis Cessa.
Cessa heads back to free agency after registering a respectable 3.89 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 29/16 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings (11 appearances, 10 starts) for Triple-A Omaha. The 32-year-old journeyman righty inked a minor league pact with the Royals last November and didn’t end up making it to Kansas City.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #85
Royals signed RHP Luis Cessa to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The deal presumably includes an invitation to spring training, but that wasn’t included in the Royals’ official announcement. The 31-year-old righty struggled mightily in seven appearances (six starts) last season for the Reds before ultimately bouncing around at the Triple-A level between the Rockies and Nationals to close out the year. He’ll presumably compete in spring training for a spot on Kansas City’s season-opening roster.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #85
    Nationals released RHP Luis Cessa.
Cessa inked a minor league contract with the Nationals back in early July and never wound up reaching the majors in Washington. The 31-year-old righty has spent time in three different organizations this season.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #85
Nationals signed RHP Luis Cessa to a minor league contract.
Cessa was released last week by the Rockies after six disastrous outings for Triple-A Albuquerque, but quickly finds an opportunity with another rebuilding club in need of extra starting pitching depth. The 31-year-old righty was released by the Reds earlier this year after seven calamitous outings (six starts) in the majors.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #85
Luis Cessa, who was signed to a minor league deal by the Rockies this week, left his first Triple-A start after taking a liner off his leg.
Cessa stayed in initially, but he exited as a precaution after facing two more batters. Assuming that he’s fine in five days, he could still be a candidate for the Rockies rotation in a couple of weeks.

  • FA Starting Pitcher #85
Rockies signed RHP Luis Cessa to a minor league contract.
The 31-year-old hurler was released by the Reds earlier in the week after registering a 9.00 ERA, 2.23 WHIP and 11/12 K/BB ratio over 26 innings in his seven appearances (six starts) there. He’ll report to Triple-A Albuquerque where he’ll function as additional pitching depth for the Rockies.

  • FA Starting Pitcher #85
    Reds released RHP Luis Cessa.
The 31-year-old struggled this year, posting a dreadful 9.00 ERA, 2.23 WHIP, and 11/12 K/BB ratio over six starts for the Reds. He will look to sign with another team.

  • FA Starting Pitcher #85
Reds designated RHP Luis Cessa for assignment.
The writing was already on the wall after the Reds announced that they would skip Cessa’s turn in the rotation. The 31-year-old has put up a brutal 9.00 ERA over six starts and one relief appearance this season.

  • FA Starting Pitcher #85
The Reds will skip Luis Cessa’s next turn in the rotation.
The Reds had an off-day Thursday and another coming up on Monday, so they’ll use the opportunity to have Cessa pitch as a member of the bullpen. Of course, he’s put up a miserable 9.00 ERA and 2.20 WHIP over six starts this season, so this is also performance-based.
